US Open
The US Open is a tennis tournament in the USA. It is traditionally the fourth and final event of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments and is held from the end of August until the beginning of September in the city of New York.

The first US Open took place in 1881. Before changing the surface to a Supreme Court in 1976, it was played on grass. Originally, the US Open were held in Forest Hills, Queens and moved to Flushing Meadows in 1978.
Richard Sears (USA) won the first US Open. Ellen Hansell was the first woman to succeed in 1887.
Andy Roddick was the last male US-American in 2003 to win the US Open title. The last female player from the USA to win was Serena Williams in 2002.
Record US Open champions are the US-Americans Richard Sears, William Larned and Bill Tilden with seven victories each and Molla Mallory from Norway with eight titles.
In 2007, defending champion Roger Federer beat Serbian Novak Djokovic, whilst Justine Henin from Belgium defeated Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova.
