The Trevor Graham case

Actually, there is ample proof that the American track coach Trevor Graham gave doping substances to his former athletes like Marion Jones and Jerome Young.
Both sprinters already witnessed against Graham. Another witness, the Mexican doping distributor Angel Guillermo Heredia, has testified before a US Federal Grand Jury in July 2006 already, that he had worked for the 44-year-old from 1996 to 2000, providing illegal performance enhancing drugs.

Nonetheless, Graham denies having ever met Heredia and declared himself innocent on day 1 of the perjury trial against him.

Now, state prosecutor Jeffrey Finigan presented a photograph from 1996 in the courtroom, showing the two men together. Graham’s lawyer William Keane commented on that by saying, that his client had just misspoken himself before. In addition to that, Keane mentioned, that it had been Graham who gave a hint to the BALCO laboratory first.

It’s very doubtful that the scheduled two weeks before court will be enough to clear up the whole doping case against Graham and his athletes.

The only thing that is beyond doubt is, that most of the former stars have nothing at all to lose and could finally tell the truth. Marion Jones had been sentenced to six months in prison on January 11, 2008. On May 16, 2008, Tim Montgomery was sentenced to 46 months in prison for his role in a Money laundering scandal.

What’s for sure: Things will stay exciting, as the former glamorous US Olympic heroes seem to fall deep one after another.
