No sacred cows in Detroit
Not even a week after the Detroit Pistons lost in the Eastern Conference final for the third straight year, the club fired coach Flip Saunders yesterday. President of basketball operations Joe Dumars made signalized others might follow: "There are no sacred cows here. You lose that sacred-cow status when you lose three straight years."
Saunders signed a contract worth up to US-$ 26 million in 2005, it ran another year.
It’s on the cards that assistant coach and earlier Pistons pro Michael Curry will succeed.
Another option is Avery Johnson, who had been fired just a short while ago from the Dallas Mavericks.
Whoever it will be - he would be Detroit's fifth coach in nine seasons.
